So he Learned How to FLY
Updated: Mar 6, 2020
Recovery from trauma takes time. Acceptance is one of the last (and most difficult) phases of it. Since life after trauma is different from life before it in some way, trauma warriors have to accept and adapt to these changes.
Even though I don’t look too different from how I used to, there’s a lot of shit that’s different now. Trying to force myself to do things the exact way I did before my trauma does nothing but stress me out. If a shoe doesn’t fit, don’t force it. Just like other trauma warriors, I’m working on accepting that some things may be different for me now and that’s okay.
Even though I was disappointed with the finale of GOT, one thing I loved about the episode was Tyrion saying “Bran knew he couldn’t walk again so he learned how to fly.” Instead of calling him Bran the broken, let’s remind ourselves that people don’t have to be defined by their trauma. We can fly just like Bran by using my FLY approach. The L in this model is to love. Its okay for us to feel sad about the easier times before our trauma but we’ll feel a lot better once we learn to love and approve of ourselves just the way we are now.
